Boron containing polyethylene sheet is a lightweight, cost-effective neutron shielding material used to attenuate and absorb neutron radiation. Boron containing polyethylene used in medical, nuclear, and industrial markets is an ideal choice for medical vaults and doors, particle accelerators, thermal chambers, nuclear storage and transportation containers, and nuclear detection systems.
Most radioactive fields include different types of radiation. The most common ones include fast neutrons, thermal neutrons, primary gamma rays, and secondary gamma rays. It is designed with boron containing polyethylene to attenuate these types of radiation.
Fast neutrons are most effectively shielded by hydrogen gas. Boron containing polyethylene has an inherent high concentration of hydrogen, with a volume exceeding 13%.
